Following the signing of USD5 million Grant Agreement between the World Bank and Addis Ababa University (AAU), the Ethiopia Climate Innovation Center (CIC) became operational in December 2013 and celebrated its opening with an official ‘Launch Event and Ribbon Cutting’ on March 27, 2014.

infoDev, a global partnership programme of the World Bank, is establishing CICs in a number of countries, and HoA-REC&N is involved in the establishment and management of a CIC in Ethiopia. The CIC aims to accelerate the development and deployment of climate technologies in Ethiopia by offering services including early-stage financing, business support, and capacity building to growth oriented SMEs and entrepreneurs.

Currently, 28 SMEs and entrepreneurs have been selected to receive CIC support services, and of these, eight candidates were the winners to receive proof of concept grants of up to one million birr each.
